Working in a fast-paced work environment, making life-and-death decisions daily, and being exposed to trauma makes workers a high risk for burnout and professional impairment. For child welfare professionals, self-care isn’t just a good idea it is an ethical responsibility.

This course is specifically designed for child welfare professionals. This course includes real ethical case examples inspired by the instructor’s experience working in child welfare, relevant information on professional impairment, and effective self-care strategies and resources.

Terricka Hardy is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, member of the Academy of Certified Social Workers, Board Certified Diplomate, and Certified Compassion Fatigue Professional. She is an appointed member of the NASW National Ethics Committee, member of the Editorial Board for the Journal of Social Work Ethics & Values, and Memphis VA Social Work Professional Standards Board member. Terricka served as a member of the NASW Professional Impairment Policy Committee and assisted with writing and revising the NASW Professional Impairment Policy Statement. She is a featured contributor of The Routledge Handbook of Social Work Ethics and Values textbook published in 2019. More importantly, Terricka worked for several years in child welfare including working with severe child abuse and neglect cases.


Terricka has presented on local, regional, and national levels. She has trained numerous of professional and community groups about ethics, mental health recovery, professional impairment, burnout, and self-care. She is devoted to enhancing the human well-being not only for clients but also for social workers, counselors and other helping professionals.
