Becoming a trauma informed child welfare professional is not an option but a professional responsibility. Child maltreatment can lead to traumatic stress in children and families. Trauma can effect individuals differently behaviorally, socially, physically, etc. It is imperative that social workers and child welfare professionals understand are able to understand how trauma impacts clients and recognize common signs and symptoms associated with trauma experiences.


In this course we will:

  1. Identify the common signs, symptoms, and effects of trauma in children.
  2. Describe the key elements of trauma informed approaches in child welfare.
  3. Discuss strategies to reduce client re-traumatization.

Terricka has presented on local, regional, and national levels.  She is a featured contributor of The Routledge Handbook of Social Work Ethics and Values published in 2019. Terricka played an integral role in advocating for the recent 2021 changes to the NASW Code of Ethics as she lead the subcommittee in crafting self-care language to the NASW Code of Ethics.
